As the spooky season draws near, the festivities of Halloween bring joy and an abundance of pumpkins. From carving Jack-o’-lanterns to creating delicious pumpkin recipes, these vibrant gourds are an essential part of the celebration. But what happens after the festivities are over? Throwing them in the trash is wasteful and detrimental to the environment, but fear not – composting your Halloween pumpkins is a sustainable and easy solution for the eco-conscious.
Composting halloween pumpkins with Bootstrap
At Bootstrap Compost, we are passionate about reducing food waste and promoting eco-friendly practices. Halloween pumpkins, while festive, are often discarded after the holiday. Instead of throwing them in the trash, consider composting them. Here’s how you can do it:
Remove decorations: Before composting your pumpkin, ensure you remove any decorations, such as candles, plastic or non-organic materials. You can reuse or recycle these items if possible.
Break it down: Chop your pumpkin into smaller pieces. The smaller the pieces, the more you can fit in your bucket!
Compost it: Place the pumpkin pieces in your bucket and wait for pickup. If you are not signed up, check out our service options here. We provide clean and convenient compost services perfect for all living spaces!
Wait for magic: Over time, the pumpkins will decompose and turn into nutrient-rich compost that can be used to fertilize a garden or houseplants.
Bag to Earth Bags: The solution for excess pumpkin waste
If you have an abundance of pumpkin waste that won’t fit in your bucket, don’t worry! We have a sustainable solution for you. Bag to Earth bags, available on our shop.
These bags are designed to hold organic waste, making them perfect for those post-Halloween cleanup sessions. They are 100% compostable and will naturally break down in a composting environment making them perfect for any excess pumpkin scraps or other organic waste. If you don’t have any Bag to Earth bags, you can leave your pumpkin on top of your bucket on your pick-up day. We can pick-up your pumpkin for an extra material pick-up fee of $6 per pumpkin.
